Infinite Shakespeares is a series of prints. They are based on the ‘infinte monkey theorem’, the widely repeated fallacy that infinite monkeys typing random letters on a keyboards would, given infinite time, eventually produce the complete works of Shakespeare.
For these prints she took the first lines of three collections of books in three different locations to produce a random stream of consciousness that resists sense-making. These lines also capture the arbitrary combination of circumstances: time, place and order of books she found to define the content of the pieces.
These pieces were a meditation on the overwhelm of the theorem - the typing monkeys could never know that they’d produced Shakespeare and would continue typing, infinitely creating meaning and nonsense in never-ending and meaningless labour…
