Kathy Rooney is a painter and printmaker based in London and Suffolk. Her abstract practice focuses on creating an active surface through layering of often vivid colours, working with the pigment on the surface, breaking out of conventional edges and boundaries and exploring the power of gesture.

In her printmaking, she creates unique monotypes (rather than editions) which often evolve from questions such as coastal erosion, nature’s living environments under our feet, or even the patterns in stones or minerals. Encircled 2 continues her preoccupation with the creation of texture and the power of gravity to move the dripping paint across the layered surface of the canvas.

A late-comer to art practice, she has MA degrees in Fine Art and in Printmaking from Middlesex University and has exhibited in London, Suffolk, Bristol, Luxembourg and Madrid. Her works are in private collections in London, Suffolk, the USA and Greece.
