Empty Vessel (Study 01)
Marker and pastel on paper
Freddy is an architect and printmaker.
His current body of work is produced using reduction linocut and uses line form and colour to explore image making in a series of prints titled ‘Empty Vessel’.
The title was originally adopted as a casual reference to a lack of inspiration. This lack of inspiration allowed Freddy to explore image making without the need for a conceptual foundation. Borrowing from his architectural background the images in this series are informed by architectural drawings, with solid lines and bold colours used to define form and space.
In pursuing this line of enquiry, the ‘Empty Vessel’ series has evolved into something potentially more complex and dynamic. Conceptually (as the work develops) the use of multiple forms or repeat forms will be used to introduce dialogue and tensions that mirror the dialogue (or lack of) and tensions we all currently experience. For each of us the title ‘Empty Vessel’ will likely have its own meaning.
This is work in progress…
