Agate I (Neon 2)
Screenprint monotype on Japanese paper
50x40cm
Kathy is a painter and printmaker based in London and Suffolk.
Her screenprint monotype, Agate 1 (Neon 2), comes from a series of monotypes printed on Japanese paper using mainly fluorescent colours. The image responds to the intricate organic shapes in a piece of agate quartz which she saw recently in the Natural History Museum.
Both Kathy’s prints and paintings continue her preoccupation with layering colours and creating gestural shapes although the discipline required in the screenprinting process contrasts with her more intuitive approach to painting.
A late-comer to art practice, Kathy only started to learn to draw and paint after two eye operations completely transformed her vision in terms of clarity, detail and the perception of colour.
