Luke Anthony Rooney explores the construction of queer identity and discourse by subverting and reclaiming language used to discriminate.

Through the use of collage and sewing, they aim to disrupt a visual culture that has long sustained the circulation of an aggressive and homophobic public discourse.

His work is concerned with how discriminative discourse has not only established itself within heteronormative society to marginalize the LGBTQIA+ community but also how it has infiltrated the queer psyche. Rooney highlights quotes such as ‘No Fem’, ‘Non-Camp’, and ‘Straight Acting’ as displays of transphobia, internalized homophobia, femphobia and shame that are often proclaimed within his community.
